Our Story

We believe in the healing power of pets and in the love and companionship that these pets bring to the underserved and unhoused.

Supporting the Louisville UNHOUSED Community and their pets

We provide this support in a judgement free environment for individuals and families in who are committed to the health and wellness of their pets and desire to keep them.

In doing so, we believe we are:

Keeping the unhoused united with what in most cases is the only living thing that provides with them with companionship, protection and unconditional love

Reducing the number of healthy pets surrendered to shelters because of financial burden

Reducing shelter overcrowding and saving healthy, loved pets from unnecessary surrender/euthanasia by keeping them healthy and with their families.

We believe in the love and companionship that companion animals bring to their underserved and unhoused owners. Everyone deserves someone that makes them look forward to tomorrow.

Everyone deserves someone that makes them look forward to tomorrow.

“I’ve been volunteering with this group for a year now and it has made a difference in my life. No matter what the weather is like outside, whether I’m soaking wet, frozen or melting from the heat, I come home happy! MDEF is making a difference.” – Linda – Louisville, KY
